Frequently asked questions

Ordering and receiving

Do you ship anywhere in Canada?

Yes, anywhere in Canada, from spring through autumn. Shipping is calculated at checkout, based on the destination. Free local pickup is also available in Laval, by appointment.

Do you ship during the winter?

No. We do not ship plants through the freezing months: the risk to a tropical orchid is simply too high, however well it is packed. Pickup in Laval stays available all year, by appointment, so you can order in winter and come and collect your plant.

What is the 40-hour heat pack for?

It protects plants on shipments sent before the first frost, in autumn, and after the last one, in spring, when nights drop below 10 °C. Activated as your order ships, it gives off gentle heat for more than 40 hours. You add it to your order at checkout.

How long before my order arrives?

Orders are prepared within 2 to 5 business days, to which the carrier's own transit time is added. You receive a confirmation email, then a notice once your order has shipped or is ready for pickup.

How does pickup in Laval work?

It is free and by appointment. We write to you as soon as your order is ready, to agree on a time. The plants are looked over together when you collect them.

The plants

Will my plants arrive in bloom?

No. Plants are sold out of bloom. The photos on each listing show the plant, or the species, in flower for reference: they show what you will see once it blooms at your place, not its condition on delivery.

Are your orchids suitable for a beginner?

Many are. Jewel orchids, grown first for their foliage, and Pinguicula make excellent first plants: they are content with the light of an ordinary room and forgive watering mistakes. Our growing guides cover each case.

What is a mounted orchid?

It is an orchid fixed to a cork plaque rather than planted in a pot, the way it would grow on a tree. Mounting suits it very well, but it changes the watering: the plaque dries quickly and needs more frequent attention. Our guide on watering orchids mounted on cork explains the method.

What should I do when my plant arrives?

Open the box as soon as it arrives and free the plant from its packing. Let it settle for a few days, away from strong light, without repotting it and without overwatering. Mild transit stress, a limp leaf or a dropped flower, is normal.

Are your plants labelled?

Yes. Every plant carries its botanical name. Our listings also give the mounting type, the size and the flowering season whenever we know them.

After your purchase

My plant arrived damaged. What should I do?

Write to us at orchids@provost.cloud within 48 hours of delivery, with photos. Depending on the situation and on availability, we arrange a replacement or a refund.

Can I return a plant?

Live plants can be neither returned nor refunded, except where the fault or the error is ours: that is the usual rule for living, perishable goods. Plants collected in person are checked together at pickup, and no return is accepted afterwards.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes, from $25 to $250. The card is sent by email with its code, is used online, and never expires. You can also have it sent straight to the person of your choice at the time of purchase.

How do I reach you?

By email at orchids@provost.cloud, or through the form on our Contact page. We answer as quickly as we can.
