The Masdevallia venus is a compact Ecuadorian species, described in 2000 and named after the goddess of beauty. Its broad, rounded flower is deep red-brown veined with darker tones, capped with bright yellow, and draws out into three long yellow tails. It opens well above a tidy, close-set rosette of leaves.
