Prosthechea radiata, the cockleshell orchid, carries its flowers upside down, the white lip striped with purple held uppermost like a ribbed shell. Its waxy cream-green flowers give off a delicious scent.
Bright light, intermediate conditions, medium humidity, watering spaced out, letting the mix dry in between. Compact, it is grown potted and suits beginners. It flowers in spring.
